Frequently Asked Questions
What weather data sources does SkyWx use?
SkyWx pulls data directly from authoritative aviation weather sources including:
- NOAA Aviation Weather Center — METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, SIGMETs, AIRMETs, G-AIRMETs
- FAA — NOTAMs, airport information
- NOAA/NWS — NEXRAD radar, SigWx charts, GFS winds, Graphical Turbulence Guidance (GTG)
- NOAA — Space weather and geomagnetic storm data
Data is refreshed frequently to ensure you have the most current picture before and during flight.
How do I plan a route and get a weather briefing?
Tap the Routes tab and enter your departure and destination airport identifiers. SkyWx will build a corridor along your route and display weather conditions, hazards, winds aloft, turbulence forecasts, and NOTAMs relevant to that corridor. Tap any item on the map for details.
What do the turbulence colours on the map mean?
The turbulence overlay uses Graphical Turbulence Guidance (GTG) combined with crowdsourced reports. Intensity is shown on a 0–50 scale:
- Green — Light or no turbulence
- Yellow / Orange — Moderate turbulence, use caution
- Red / Magenta — Severe turbulence
Crowdsourced markers show recent pilot reports from other SkyWx users.
How does crowdsourced turbulence reporting work?
SkyWx can passively detect turbulence using your device's sensors while in flight, or you can manually submit a turbulence report. Reports are aggregated on our servers and shown to other pilots on the map as real-time overlays. Your location data is only transmitted when you actively use the app.
How do I filter NOTAMs?
In the NOTAMs view, tap the filter icon to narrow results by keyword, NOTAM type (aerodrome, en-route, FDC), or date range. When a route is active, NOTAMs are automatically filtered to airports and airspace along your corridor.
What is the Winds Aloft chart?
The Winds Aloft chart shows forecast wind direction and speed at multiple flight levels for a given location. Tap any airport or waypoint on the map and select Winds Aloft to see a vertical wind profile. Data is sourced from GFS and wind/temperature aloft forecasts.
How do I restore my subscription on a new device?
Open Settings → Subscription inside SkyWx and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. If the restore does not work, contact us at support@aeronautica.se with your Apple ID and we will investigate.
Does SkyWx work without an internet connection?
SkyWx requires an internet connection to fetch live weather data. However, recently loaded weather, map tiles, and airport data are cached locally so you can review information you have already viewed even if connectivity drops. We recommend completing your preflight briefing before heading to the aircraft.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Send an email to support@aeronautica.se with a description of the issue or your idea. For bugs, please include your device model, iOS version, and steps to reproduce. We read every message and prioritise based on user feedback.
