Privacy Policy

Overview

Aeronautica ("we", "us", or "our") operates the SkyWx iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use SkyWx, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Device information: Anonymous device identifiers used for subscription validation and API authentication. We do not collect your name, Apple ID, or any personally identifying device details.
• Usage data: Aggregated, anonymous statistics about which features are used (e.g. how often route briefings are requested). This data cannot be linked back to individual users.
• Contact form submissions: If you contact us via the support website, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message solely to respond to your enquiry.
• Subscription receipts: Encrypted StoreKit 2 transaction data provided by Apple, used only to verify your subscription status. We do not store payment card details.

Location Data

SkyWx requests access to your device location to show weather conditions, airports, NOTAMs, and hazards relevant to your current position or planned route.

• Location is accessed only while the app is in use (foreground access).
• Your precise coordinates are used to query weather data from our server and are not stored, logged, or shared with third parties.
• You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings. The app remains usable — you can enter any location manually.

Crowdsourced Turbulence Reports

SkyWx includes an optional crowdsourced turbulence feature. When enabled:

• Your device's motion sensors are used to detect turbulence intensity. You may also submit manual reports.
• Reports are transmitted to our server as anonymous data points — they include a turbulence intensity value, altitude, and an approximate location. No user identifier is attached.
• Reports are aggregated into a grid and displayed to other users on the map. Individual report coordinates are not exposed.
• You can disable crowdsourced reporting at any time in the app's Settings.

Subscription & Purchases

Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple's App Store and StoreKit 2. Aeronautica does not have access to your Apple ID, payment method, or billing information.

We receive an encrypted transaction receipt from Apple, which we use to issue a short-lived session token granting access to premium features. This token is stored only on your device and expires automatically.

Third-Party Services

SkyWx fetches weather data from the following authoritative public sources. Your requests are proxied through our server — these services do not receive your IP address or device identifiers:

• NOAA Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) — METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, SIGMETs, AIRMETs
• FAA Digital NOTAM Service — NOTAMs
• NOAA / NWS — NEXRAD radar, GFS wind forecasts, space weather

For the optional audio briefing feature, anonymised weather data text is sent to Google Gemini (Google AI Studio) to generate a spoken briefing. No personal information or location data is included in this request.

We do not integrate any third-party advertising, analytics SDKs, or social media frameworks into the app.

Data Retention

• Weather cache: Cached weather data is stored locally on your device and is cleared when you delete the app.
• Server logs: Our server logs requests for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes. Logs contain IP addresses and request paths but no personal identifiers.
• Contact form messages: Retained only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry, then deleted from our inbox.
• Turbulence reports: Aggregated and anonymised. Raw individual reports are purged after 24 hours; the aggregated grid is retained for trend analysis.

Children

SkyWx is intended for use by licensed pilots and aviation enthusiasts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to:

• Request access to, or deletion of, any personal data we hold about you
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

Since we collect very little personal data, most requests can be fulfilled immediately. To exercise your rights, contact us at support@aeronautica.se.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
